Empowering Change for Affordable Housing and Community Service; 50 Women for SCCSS

Early this February an inspiring celebration took place at the Ocean Club & Bistro restaurant, uniting a dedicated group of women who have worked tirelessly to make a difference in their community. This event marked a significant milestone for the 50 Women for SCCSS (Sunshine Coast Community Services) initiative, which has raised an incredible $822,180 to support the Building Together project. This project aims to provide affordable housing for women and children who are either facing violence or are at risk of it.

The banquet was filled with connection, solidarity, and a deep sense of accomplishment. It not only celebrated the hard work of these women but also highlighted the essential role that community-focused initiatives play in tackling pressing issues like domestic violence and homelessness.

The Journey of 50 Women for SCCSS

Since launching in May last year, the 50 Women for SCCSS initiative has become a powerful force within the Sunshine Coast community. Made up of 50 passionate women, this group has concentrated its efforts on raising funds specifically for affordable housing. Their goal is to provide safe spaces for women and children who need it most.

By organizing various fundraising events, such as bake sales, charity auctions, and community workshops, these women have shown the potential of collective action. For example, a recent auction raised $50,000 alone, demonstrating the impact of community engagement. Their journey reinforces a vital insight: when individuals come together with a shared mission, real change is possible.

What is the Building Together Project?

At the center of this initiative lies the Building Together project, a vision aimed at creating 35 units of affordable housing for women and children escaping or at risk of violence. The project's goal is more than just providing housing; it wants to create a nurturing environment conducive to healing and personal growth.

The community hub that will be integrated within this project is particularly significant. It will offer vital resources, activities, and support services, enabling families to build a future. This holistic approach recognizes that affordable housing and accessible support services are crucial for achieving lasting transformation. According to recent statistics, women with access to supportive housing are 70% more likely to maintain stable housing long-term compared to those without.

Celebration Highlights

The event at the Ocean Club & Bistro was not just a gathering; it represented the culmination of shared efforts in connecting fellow supporters committed to community well-being. We are grateful to be a part of this celebration, and we look forward to hosting more events with our community!
